The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
