Liverpool's Manager Provides Zero Justifications and Pledges to Plot Way From Malaise

Arne Slot declared he had to “examine my own performance” following Liverpool endured a 6th loss in seven Premier League matches at home to Forest and affirmed he would discover a way from the champions’ poor run.

Forest, fighting against the drop before kick off, delivered the largest victory at Liverpool's stadium in their club records as Liverpool slipped to an 8th loss in 11 matches in every tournament. The British record signing, the Swedish striker, was again unnoticeable and Liverpool argued the defender's opener should have been ruled out for similar reasons to Virgil van Dijk’s chalked-off goal versus City prior to the national team pause. But the manager conceded the responsibility stopped with him and made no excuses.

“No one wants to hear me now talking about officiating calls if you are defeated 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest,” stated the Reds' boss. “I ought to examine myself first and my team, but it demonstrates you how a score can alter the flow of a match. Before I was just hoping for us to net a goal. Afterwards we barely created any chances.

“Naturally there is a path forward, especially with the quality players we have. Regardless if you win or are beaten when you look back you are always thinking: ‘In which areas can we improve, where can we make changes?’ but that is different from questioning your abilities.

“I want to stress I am responsible for the current losses. You are responsible when you are victorious but also responsible when you are defeated. I can never come up with sufficient excuses for us to have the outcomes we have. That is not good enough and I am responsible for that.”

Liverpool’s performance unravelled as the coach made several offensive changes when pursuing the match. “It was the same on the road at Nottingham Forest the previous campaign,” he said. “I substituted the French defender out and put on the Portuguese forward and he scored immediately to make it 1-1. Then it was brave, now it’s probably stupid.”

Liverpool previously were defeated in two successive at Anfield league fixtures by Nottingham Forest in the sixties. The most recent occasion they suffered back-to-back league matches by a three-goal margin was in the mid-60s.

The manager commented: “It was very bad. Playing on home soil, losing 3-0 no matter which team you encounter is a very, very bad outcome. Surprising if you consider the opening 30 minutes of the match. I did not witness us creating so many chances in the initial 30 minutes maybe the entire campaign, and the initial occasion they arrived in our box they found the back of the net.

“It did not happen at City, but in all other game we have been the controlling side and were capable to generate opportunities. Recently it is almost consistently that we miss our chances and the ones we concede go in.”
