Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes across the region in response for a significant and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is unclear and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with notable success and shot down a series of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported debris landed in a populated district in the capital, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
