Former Doctor Accused of Sexual Assault Charges Involving 38 Patients
Legal authorities report that a former physician stands accused of performing assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were under his care.
The Serious Charges
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of numerous sexual offences – some of which involve acts against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.
A senior prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
The Investigation
These allegations come after what police described as a “complex investigation” into alleged assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer will appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.
List of Charges
Prosecutors said the forty-five sexual offences comprise:
- Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
- Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
- Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- One count of attempted penetrative assault.
Police are urging anyone with concerns to contact the investigating team.
